The Opal Peafowl is still a relatively new breed of peafowl and was first bred in the 1990’s in USA. David Dickerson of Delaware and Dwayne Jones of Maryland, created the Opal variety of peafowl.

The United Peafowl Association officially recognised the Opal Peafowl variety in 2001.

The Opal Peacock was first introduced into the UK in 2011 and continues to thrive as one of the most beautiful colours of peafowl.

Breeding Opal Peafowl bred to Opal Peafowl they breed true.

Opal Peachicks are born with a light grey colour, making them stand out from other colour peafowl.

The Opal Peacock has a darker slate grey neck with stunning glints of Opal gemstone colours.

It is this iridescent colour that gives the Opal it’s name.

The Opal peacocks wings are barred in dark and light grey, with ocelli that are opal, black and copper in colour.
